The Richmond Centennial Celebrates with an
“Old Fashioned Parade & Picnic” in Point Richmond

11 AM, Sunday, August 7, 2005

( At 5 PM it's time to PARTY! PARTY! PARTY! )

Celebrate the City’s Centennial here in Point Richmond where it all began. Richmond’s founding fathers met on the second floor of the old (c. 1900), Critchett Hotel (where the Point Richmond Market now stands) to organize the City. At the men’s request, the State of California incorporated the City of Richmond on August 7, 1905.

In celebration of that day we will start the fun at 11:00 A.M. with a Kids' Parade winding through the Historic business district of the Point.

Parade participants should meet in front of the Point Richmond Field House on East Richmond at 10:30 a.m. Our own Marsha Tomassi will be organizing everyone and sending them off in order at the start.

We have 42 entries in the parade including Tom and his goats, Pat Pearson (Davis) & Friends with a collection of pets, PRAM with Moms pushing strollers, Mike Nova and Friends with their Big Bikes, a Brownie Troop, Scott McAlister with his horse and many, many more.

Al Frosini (shown here with his wonder cat, Wally) will serve as Grand Marshal, smiling and waving from Richard Lompa’s classic pink 1970 Olds convertible. Al and Helene Raffanelli, his wife of 63 years, were the former owners of Al’s Restaurant in the Point.

Then we’ll move out to the Miller-Knox Regional Park for an Old Time Picnic.

The Point Richmond History Association has invited many of the "old timers" to join in the fun too. There’ll be old fashion games and contests for everyone from pre-schoolers through adults.

Activities will include music, three-legged races, a watermelon eating contest, “go-fish,” a water balloon toss, a hunt for coins in the sand, sack races, a bean bag toss and much, much more. PAL will be selling hot dogs, etc.,Bring your lunch, buy BBQ and come join in the fun.

The parade and picnic are sponsored and supported by:
